The EpicQuestz Newsletter
ISSUE 66 - 29th October 2024
Greetings, good people and loyal readers of the (not so regular) EpicQuestz newsletters. Our lovely editor-in-chief lee_yam11 has found himself occupied for some time, which leaves me another opportunity to once again give writing this irregular tradition of a newsletter a shot! As 10 months have passed since the last edition, we have a whole lot to catch up on. Let’s not waste anymore time and jump right into it!

Though the focus was shifted towards Empire War projects and Bree, Osgiliath still welcomed new buildings such as the warehouses on the banks of river Anduin, among other, less significant new builds. I have also added more street, square/plaza and building layouts in particular to the third district; the poor one. The location for the famous orc landing from the Return of the King has been identified. We’ll be working on the layout around that area in the coming weeks. This project will remain a bit of a lower priority map, where our builders will always be able to find tasks at all times.

Bree has, at long, long last, completed its construction phase. All exterior houses within the city walls have been built, including the very handsome stables complex. Unfortunately this is only a the first phase, considering the mammoth task of interiors still to go, but these are slowly being ticked off the list thanks to the hard working green team. In the last couple of fortnightly build sessions, we have been working to complete some gardens and general decor around the city, which has added some much needed life and attraction to some of the streets. Plans have been swirling around the stratosphere for the outer fields outside the city walls, which soon will become the glorious crops that feed Eriador.
A massive thank you to everyone and anyone who helped us to complete the first phase of this project! It has certainly been a long road, and one I have thoroughly enjoyed traversing with you, though as I have already stated, it’s not over yet. May the very souls of interior structure and decoration tremble before our might!!!

Following approximately 8-10 months of revamping, we are proud to deliver an updated version of Empire War’s Moria Great Halls, to the highest of Minecraft Standard ascross the entire building community.
We have preserved the integrity of the first half of the map as it was known a decade ago, but gave it a much more modern look. The goal was to rework the surface of the caves, make the build feel old and MASSIVE, all while hinting at an attempt to reclaim the long lost kingdom by Balin’s company, hence the numerous crates and supplies lying around the place. The second half of the map, however, is completely new; for the 23rd hall, which lies right past Balin’s Tomb (also known as the Chamber of Mazarbûl), was built to further enforce the idea of Great Halls, as a map. It is a large feasting hall, long abandoned by the Dwarves. Past that hall, a movie inspired Great Chasm, where the Great Stairs stand. The very same stairs that the Fellowship of the Rings passes in the movies! Further down the ravine, the iconic Bridge of Khazad Dûm connects the Eastern part of the Chasm with the Second Hall, one of the most beautiful on the map. Finally, through the colourful First Hall, right up the stairs, we arrive to the valley of Azanulbizar, in front of a movie accurate Eastern gate, as well as the iconic rocky plateau, the Mirrormere and the Stone of Durin.
I’d like to express huge thanks to the_pharaohs_cat whom I co-lead the map with, as well as all of the builders who have stayed day and night to help decorate the map and prepare it with tight deadlines. The effort paid off, and all can be proud of themselves and of us!
Our adventures with this awesome map, however, do not end with its addition to Empire War. We agreed that it will serve as a good basis for a future EpicQuestz Moria (which may yet happen in quite a long time). But for now, let our fists and pickaxes rest.

As always, we are proud to announce our newest promotions and additions to the team, so join me in welcoming and celebrating
Mile_High_Masher’s promotion to builder!
Le0nn’s promotion to builder!
Grissum1’s promotion to builder!
Valenthir’s promotion to builder!
PeanutButter_Jar’s promotion to Artist!
Given that this marks the first artist promotion in several years, it is fitting to extend additional congratulations to PeanutButter_Jar. May many others be inspired to follow in his path.
Once again, as it’s been 10 months since the last edition, I’ll showcase a number of creations which are all worthy of their own!
Initially, we have erikojo7, showcasing an aesthetically pleasing Japanese/Asian-inspired structure. Also there is a project by GroovierRex2630, featuring a nice harbor design.
Finally, it is essential to highlight the work of our newly promoted artist, PeanutButter_Jar, who has created a distinctly unique terrain-focused plot.
Alright then, that’s all you guys need to know for now! As per usual, we have been staying true to our habit of releasing newsletters at a very irregular pace. It’s almost become a tradition now to write a few letters before disappearing for a long time, so don’t be surprised if it takes an age for the next one! Once again this was me Rio of the 155th, bringing you another piece of text to read on your evening! See ya!
